6-sick-6 asked:

so there is this huge ugly field next to my house. no flowers. just poison ivy, saplings, dead trees & dead wood. (oh & tuns of weeds)

my resolution was to seed the field. there is to much crap in it to clear the field myself…but a little color never hurts.

i have sprinkled a mix of sunflower seeds & a bag of lupines
but i am looking to drop some good self seeding annuals and perennials

i picked poppy’s because they cover fields after just a few seasons, are low maintenance, come in a wide range of colors & i hear will come back year after year in fields (i’m not going to maintain). i already have the seeds… i real good mix

my question is when should i sew them? i plan on just walking through the field & sprinkling them around. i know that very few will grow from this type of sewing but with all the seeds they produce i only need 1 or 2 to make it.

should i drop them in winter, late fall, or very early spring?…i recently moved to Dallas the winter temps don’t get to bad just a few freezes a year. but no snow to insulate from windchill.

i tried to sew them last spring but it got to hot to quick & they died.
what month should i sew them in Dallas, Texas.

*** as a precursor i know that my poppy seed mix contains a few somniferum (opium) poppy seeds but if the feds ever accused me of anything they could just search my house, i don’t plan on any illegal activities so i have nothing to worry about***
